Discover – Imagine Living in Sudan!
Federal Land: North Rhine-Westphalia
Award Period: 2008/2009
This is an ESD project for German schools and parishes. It is based on an experience-oriented approach. Participating groups and classes of school children explore Sudan with all their senses. They can discover Sudan by actively immersing themselves in Sudanese life. The project’s main aim is to allow children and teenagers to engage in global learning through their own experience and to enable them to develop strategies for helping to build a more equitable world. The project revolves around building a Sudanese roundhouse, for instance within the framework of a project week or in interdisciplinary working groups. Simultaneously, the project offers teaching modules allowing students to experience the world of a Sudanese child/youth. Examples of how the Millenium Development Goals relate to Sudan play a part in this. A contest entitled "Baumeister für den Sudan" ("Master Builder for Sudan") is part of the project and a wide variety of free teaching material on the integration of ESD into classes is provided.
