Developing European Competence in Sustainable Economic Activity – Curricula and Teaching Materials for Sustainable Vocational Training in the Food Sector (EuKoNa)

Federal Land: North Rhine-Westphalia

Award Period: 2008/2009

This project primarily aims to test new learning concepts and to promote continuing education for teachers, while at the same time striving for an enhanced quality of European systems of vocational training, in particular with respect to qualifications in the area of sustainability (sustainable economic activity in vocational training). To this end, curricula and practice-oriented teaching material are made available to the institutions and teachers and students are supported in acquiring the skills necessary to recognize and take account of sustainability-related aspects of their professional activities. In a pilot phase, the project focuses on trainees in the retail and restaurant chain sectors and their teachers and supervisors in three schools in Dortmund, Krefeldand Unna. It is easy to demonstrate the economic and ecological effects of non-sustainable economic activity to this target group of people undergoing vocational training or continuing learning in the catering food sector.
